President’s Message – November 2009
You will be receiving your annual meeting materials in early November for the scheduled annual meeting of homeowners on December 15, 2009. These will include the ballot/proxy for new Board members, the 2010 budget, revised parking rules, and a survey to provide homeowner input to support and guide the next Board in planning and decisions. Please return the ballot and survey NLT December 1, 2009 to ensure that we establish a quorum to conduct business. The Board approved budget for 2010 will result in reduced dues for 2010.
Although rain shortened, the community picnic was held on September 26th and the BBQ and chicken were great. We were happy to see the large turnout, despite the weather. Thanks to Rick Layton, Maria Vincent, and Suzanne Forsythe for the picnic planning, and the Crime Watch volunteers who distributed flyers. Also, special thanks go to our sponsors BB&T, the Taberna Tribune, Dunkin Donuts, and the Taberna Country Club who loaned us the golf vehicles to help with set up.
The new flag is a great addition to the Taberna entrance. The Board extends a special thanks to those who made it happen - the flagpole was donated by Iris Crawford; the eagle on top was donated by Alva Windham; and the team that installed it (Glenn Killian, Jim Wilson, Bob Reddick, Walt Reed, Bill Gibson and photographer Jim Lee). Please read the complete article on page 3 of this month’s Tribune. We hope to see you at the dedication of the flag on Veterans Day, November 11th.
Recently, the HOA has received complaints about barking dogs. Please be considerate of your neighbors and control them so that they do not create an annoyance. Also, be aware that dogs that howl, yelp, or bark frequently or habitually may be considered a public nuisance in accordance with New Bern city ordinance. A homeowner who allows a dog to bark incessantly is subject to a ticket and civil penalty of $20. In addition, any animal declared a public nuisance could be impounded. The city of New Bern has an animal control officer who performs all duties related to animal control. Please contact that officer if you have a concern.
The monthly Board meetings will be held at the HOA office at 5:30 PM on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. The next meeting will be November 11th. The office is located at 3950 US Highway East (Route 70 and Thurman Road). If you need directions to the office, call one of the Board Members or myself.
