President’s Message – June 2009

Last month I mentioned efforts underway to select new landscape contractors for next year.  We have released bid requests with proposals due NLT 12 June.  Also, thanks to Suzanne Forsythe, our Treasurer, for negotiating a two year lease extension of our HOA office space.

Thanks to our Buildings and Ground committee for their efforts that resulted in the new landscaping and enhanced appearance of our front islands at the entry to Taberna.  As part of our ongoing beautification efforts in 2009, we are currently reviewing alternative proposals that have been recommended for accomplishment.  These include landscape improvements for some of our bridges on Taberna Circle, the Emmen Rd area, and along the front of the new Townhouses at the entry to Taberna.  Once the cost estimates are complete, we will decide which improvements to go with based on available budget in 2009.

In recognition that beautification projects were planned to be implemented over a period of years, the Board will examine, as part of the budget deliberations for 2010, areas in which additional landscape improvements would be beneficial for Taberna.  The Board’s goal is to preserve and enhance our community appearance and property values.  Your thoughts relative to potential beautification improvements within Taberna are welcome

We are continuing to work with the City to find a solution to the drainage issues and agreement on some type of decorative barrier along Taberna Way in the area of the 4 way stop.  We have repaired the significant damage caused by people driving off road and u-turning in this area over the past winter and early spring but we will face continuing, expensive repairs until we get a permanent solution in place.

Thanks to all that responded to our request for a community wide “spring cleaning” effort.  I am sure the landscape contractors also appreciate the work you give them as it is vital to help them get through this rough economy.  Keep up the good work.

If you are considering changing and/or adding improvements to your home and yard, please take the time to review your proposed changes against the protective covenants and Architectural and Appearance Guidelines to avoid potential problems.  A quick call to the Architectural Control Committee can save you the time and money fixing a change or improvement to your property that was not approved by the ACC.  Also consult our website (tabernahoa.org) for information on architectural and appearance guidelines.

We are looking for volunteers to serve on the Board for terms that will be expiring at the end of the year.  If you are interested, please contact Steve Harman or any of the Board members to discuss how you can help serve your community

The monthly Board meetings will be held at the HOA office at 5:30 PM on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.  The next meeting will be June 10th.  The office is located at 3950 US Highway East (Route 70 and Thurman Road). If you need directions to the office, call one of the Board Members or myself.
