President's Message
November 2008
The Taberna Homeowners Association Annual Meeting will be held next month on WEDNESDAY, December 10th, 7:00 PM, at Creekside Elementary School. Notices for the meeting will be mailed during the first week in November and should be received by all HOA members by November 12th.
The Board of Directors received inquiries from a number of residents interested in serving as board members for the HOA. The Board unanimously recommends the candidates who are listed in the Proxy/Ballot. I would like to thank all the residents who showed an interest in serving on the Board.
If you are unable, or choose not to attend the meting, please review all of the information in the packet, complete the ballot, and mail it to the address shown in the letter. If you have any questions that you would like answered at the meeting, please follow the directions found in the Notice.
This year in Taberna we have had some incidents of crime and vandalism. Due to the efforts of the Crime Watch Committee and the New Bern Police, there has been an increase in police patrols. Residents were reminded to lock all car and home doors, as well as closing garage doors. Lately the level of criminal activity seems to have been significantly reduced.
We received reports of improper use of the canoe dock and the surrounding area by non-residents. To minimize this unauthorized activity, the Buildings and Grounds Committee recommended to the Board that a gate be installed at the entrance to the parking lot for the canoe dock. After consulting with the Crime Watch Committee, the Board approved the installation.
In the interest of safety and security we have contacted the City to see if additional street lighting can be added throughout the community where the current lighting does not does not adequately illuminate the area. At this time we are waiting for the results of the study.
During the year the Buildings and Grounds Committee worked to enhance the appearance of our community. The Board's goal has always been to help create a positive first and lasting impression of Taberna.
There are many benefits and advantages to living in Taberna. We are within five minutes of Creekside Elementary School, Creekside Park, the airport, a grocery store, churches, banks, restaurants and a variety of small businesses. Once the bridge reopens, we are only three traffic lights from downtown New Bern. For those working at Cherry Point, there are only three or four traffic lights to that facility. Residents who are members of the Taberna Country Club are only minutes away from the pool, tennis courts, restaurant and golf course.
We are fortunate to have a New Bern Fire Station near by and the County's EMS unit is located on the other side of Route 70.
I want to thank all of the people who were involved with our Community Picnic and helped to make it such a success. Over 170 people attended the event this year.
The monthly meeting will be held at the HOA office at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, November 18th. The office is located at 3950 US Highway East (Route 70 and Thurman Road). If you need directions to the office call myself or one of the Board Members.
