PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE, APRIL, 2010
Rick Layton, President, Taberna Homeowners Association
The monthly Board meetings will be held at the HOA office on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 5:30 PM. The next meeting with be on April 7th. If you need directions to the office call one of the Board members or me. The office is located at 3950 US Highway 70 East and Thurman Road.
At the March 3rd meeting the HOA Board reviewed the year end 2009 financial reports from the Finance Committee. Taberna HOA is in very good financial shape. As of now about 95% of the community has paid their 2010 THOA dues. If you have a problem paying your dues contact the HOA Board for help. We will soon be moving to set the 2011 budget. If you have items that need to be included in the new budget please contact a THOA Board Member. The Board is also discussing home-based businesses. Please pass your suggestions on this subject to covenantsthoa@gmail.com. We are continuing to evaluate covenants, and the rules that have followed them, in order to place them on the website in an easy to read manner.
Chairman Jim Wilson of the Building and Grounds (B&G) Committee has resigned, along with a couple of other long serving members. The THOA Board would like to thank them for their long service to the Taberna Community. This leaves a chance for new community members to step up and take a role in keeping Taberna a strong community.
Last month I announced that we had formed two new committees, the Todd Denson Park proposal committee and the canoe dock committee. We are pleased that the park proposal committee has begun work with six members. The canoe dock committee is also moving quickly to begin work. If you want to join either committees call a THOA Board member.
Sue McCarthy and Tom Tucker are co-chairing the crime watch committee. They have met and are beginning their work. This is yet another way you can get involved in the Taberna Community.
It is spring time and Taberna is beginning to green up. Please do your part to make Taberna look attractive for the Spring Homes tours. There have been a number of people inquiring about buying homes in Taberna, mostly from the snow-bound North East. Please do your part to spruce up your home and yards, this is what makes Taberna stand out from other communities. Mold on the siding of your home can easily be power washed off. Mail boxes and posts need to be painted. Please leave your cuttings and yard debris at curbside, and please bag grass clippings so the City of New Bern can pick it up on Tuesdays. Please do not put clippings in the wetlands because this is a violation of US law.
It is also time to form a committee for the annual fall picnic. We need Taberna volunteers to help plan this event in order to make it a great occasion for the community. If we cannot get volunteers to assist there will not be a picnic. It will not take many hours to set up with volunteers, we need your assistance in making this a good event.
If you have questions as to when a Taberna committee meets please email or call me at ricklayton@msn.com or call 633-1093. I will provide you with the information. We need all the Taberna community to participate in the process of the Taberna Homeowners Association. If you have a few hours that you can spare please become involved in your community.
