Presidents Message February 2010
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE, FEBRUARY 2010
Rick Layton, President, Taberna Homeowners Association
The Taberna Homeowners Association held its annual meeting on December 15th at Creekside Elementary School. I thank all who attended and who mailed in their votes to allow us to have the quorum required to elect the new Board of Directors. I also thank the staff at Creekside Elementary School for hosting our meeting.
Elected to the Board of Directors were Jim Dugan, Russ Packard, and John Serumgard. Immediately following the meeting the new Board for 2010 held a meeting and elected new officers as shown in the Tribune.
I convey a special thank you to the departing members of the 2009 Board, Gene Peele, Suzanne Forsythe, the HOA Treasurer for the past 5 years, and Steve Harman for their wisdom and insight to the Board. I also thank the Standing Committees for their commitment to maintaining Taberna as one of the best communities in Eastern North Carolina.
The monthly Board meetings will be held at the HOA office on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 5:30 PM. The next meeting with be on February 3rd. If you need directions to the office call one of the board members or me. The office is located at 3950 US Highway 70 East and Thurman Road.
The Board has already taken some steps to ensure that the Taberna community has input to the Boards actions. We will be publishing a Summary of covenant violations for the year of 2009 and we will update that summary quarterly for 2010. If you want to report covenant violations please email covenantshoa@gmail.com The Board will conduct a comprehensive review of all covenants and properly adopted rules to ensure that the community understands these important documents. The HOA website will then be restructured and updated to provide better access to this critical information. Because of the importance of this information, the project will be completed in a timely manner and the website quickly updated. The Board will also look at the Standing Committees to ensure that they are properly staffed and that we are making the best use of volunteers from the community on the committees.
The Board will also publish the results of the community survey that was conducted along with the annual voting. We were impressed by the number of returned surveys and comments made by the community. The Board wants to place every volunteer in a position to make Taberna a better community. Please call a Board member if you wish to volunteer in the community so we can maintain a list of people who want to help. If you wish to begin a new activity in the community let the Board know so we can get people to assist you in making it happen. We need to establish an annual picnic committee. The Crime Watch Committee will begin under the leadership of Sue McCarthy and Tom Tucker, and they will need volunteers for this important committee from the Taberna community.
We wish the Taberna community a Happy and Safe 2010.
