President’s Message – September 2008

Taberna Homeowners Association

 

As we are finally feeling some relief from the summer heat, I want to share with our community some of the "cool" changes that have transpired this year.

 

• At the entrance to Taberna, changes were made to the traffic signals on Route 70. We have been working with the N.C Department of Transportation to improve the traffic flow for those of us exiting onto Route 70. This is an ongoing process where the primary goal is the efficient movement of traffic on Route 70, while allowing traffic to safely enter Route 70.

 

• The Crime Committee continues to keep us informed about some of the crime in our area and the actions we can take to secure our homes and property. They advise us to lock our car doors and garage/house doors to minimize the possibility of theft. One small reminder, don't leave your valuables in the car. They are safer in your home. Calls by our residents to the New Bern Police Department, concerning suspicious activity in Taberna, have resulted in several arrests.

 

• We have improved the two side entrances off Old Airport road with new plantings, and added other enhancements throughout Taberna. Your Buildings and Grounds Committee continues to evaluate the need for landscaping changes in Taberna. If you have any suggestion please contact them with your ideas.

 

At the last annual meeting we instituted a rule that clarified the landscaping requirements. At this time we are not aware of any property that is in violation of that revised rule.  Please remember that yard/garage sales are not permitted in Taberna.

 

We are always looking for residents who are willing to serve on the Board or any of the committees. If you are new or a long-time resident in Taberna and would consider volunteering, please contact me or any of the Board members to discuss how you can serve in your community.

 

We plan on holding the Annual Meeting this December at the new Creekside Elementary School, which is located closer to Taberna. A time and date will be confirmed by the end of September.

 

The Board of Directors holds its monthly meetings at 5:30 PM, on the third Tuesday of each month at the HOA office. The office is located at 3950 US Highway East (Route 70 and Thurman Road). For directions to the office, please call myself or one of the Board members. Any Taberna homeowner is welcome to attend.
