Question:

Question: .  The progress of the Taberna Townes construction.  I have not noticed any activity for quite some time and wondered if there is any reason that progress has slowed?

Taberna Townes

The builder of Taberna Townes is working on finalizing the design of the units and hopes to begin the building the first unit this summer. The TMHOA is working with the builder to finalize the appropriate association agreements and the budget for this community. Landscaping along Taberna Way will be enhanced in conjunction with the building of the initial town home.

Question:[TabMail] Super 70 corridor project

I would be interested to know if anyone on the Taberna board was aware of the planning for this project.  Were we even asked to participate or to comment?  I see we have four Craven County members on the committee that is fronting this project.  Have any of them been heard from?  Have they asked to address any group meetings to explain what is going to be going on?  Or should we just sit back and let it happen?

Highway 70 – Super 70 Corridor

Members of the TMHOA Board have discussed this issue since 2006. The impact of the proposal may occur many years from now. It is our understanding that prior to the corridor update being completed that the parallel service roads should be developed by the state.

During a countywide meeting called by County Commissioner Tyson, on February 8, 2007. Members of the county’s staff discussed many issues that were raised by the county residents in attendance. During the meeting the issue of the corridor came up and a member of the staff commented that the effort is headed by members of the impacted counties and the plan, at that point, was not approved by the state nor had funding been committed to the project.

At a meeting with New Bern’s City Manager he indicated that the City is working with the State to take over ownership of portions of Old Airport Road once the state brings them up to the City’s standards. There does not appear to be a fixed timetable for the transfer of the roads to the City.

As the commercial business move into our area over the next five to ten years it appears that the Thurman Road area may become the retail shopping center. By that time one can hope that Old Airport Road will be improved and the service roads, parallel to Route 70, would be in place. Those roads would provide Taberna residents excellent access to and from those businesses and the new elementary school that is scheduled to open this year on Old Airport Road.

 End.......
